Beginning this Saturday, I will begin holding an outdoor strength and conditioning class.  It will feature some of the most effective fat loss and performance tools in existence, including prowler pushing, sled dragging, kettlebell exercises and medicine ball exercises.  You can find more info on the prowler and the sled in previous blogposts.  Class will be done circuit style with different stations and partners at each station.

You will build muscle and strength and get a great cardiovascular workout simultaneously.  This means more fat loss, better performance and a better and leaner body.  Get ready to sweat, work hard and have fun.  Quit wasting your time on the elliptical and treadmill and come train effectively!

Class will be held at 6701 82nd Street at Gangler Park in Kenosha on Saturdays at 11:00 and outside Southridge Athletic Club on Wednesdays at 4:30 (as of now).  Times are subject to change and new times may be added as time goes on.  If you are interested, please call or email and let me know so I can get you the paperwork as well as reserve your spot.  Spots will go fast so reserve yours now! Price will be $12 a person by the class or $100 total if you sign up for 10 classes in advance. You will not find a better workout than this anywhere around the area so don't miss out and call or email me now.

I will also offer complementary assessments to any participant who is interested in getting their own individualized program.

With cold weather here, its hard to get outside for sled dragging (If you want to know more about sled dragging, check out earlier posts).  Therefore, I have created a way to do some dragging inside (I don't have access to a turf field or anything like that right now).  I took a dipping belt, looped the chain through some plates, grabbed on to the end of the belt and started rollin.  Don't use to the cold as an excuse to slack on your conditioning. Check out Mark finishing up his workout!  Disregard the music,  it was not my choice. :)

Sled Dragging 10/03/2009

One of my favorite and most effective forms of training is sled dragging.  You can drag in an unlimited number of ways and work on a wide variety of physical qualities.  You can go for intervals to get a good anaerobic workout; you can go heavy for strength work; you can go lighter for time to get a good aerobic workout; you can run sprints to develop running power; you can do upper body work; special lower body work; and best of all, you can bring the sled anywhere.

I drag it in front of my house and I bring it with me to the gym I train clients at and do sled work in the parking lot.  One of my favorite ways to use it with clients is to go outside after their strength training is done, and do multiple trips usually ranging from 3 to 6 trips down and back.  It is a great form of cardiovascular work and instead of muscle wasting, (happens with long duration running) it builds and strengthens muscles, especially the entire leg.  It does not get boring and best of all, you get lots of confused stares from onlookers who wonder why and what you are doing.

If an athlete lacks leg drive, the sled will make them get some leg drive.  If you need to strengthen your hips, the sled will do it.  If you want to firm up your thighs, the sled will do it.  If you want to do some cardio that isn't boring, and helps you lose fat and speed up your metabolism faster than an elliptical or stationary bike, the sled can help you there too.  The list goes on.  Check out these example vids.
